I know this thread is for last year's derby, but I'm still wondering what the best way a kayak can bring a 40 inch pike back to the dock.

I'm not sure how effective I'd be able to setup a 40 inch long cooler on the back of my yak.  I'm also not sure how dragging a pike in a bag would work.

I think if anything I would try to keep the fish in the landing net and/or on lip grips. I think after cruising 100m with fresh water flowing over the pikes gills, it'll perk right up and I'd have a hand to fin fight on my hands...

Anyone with past experience want to help explain the best way to deal?  I don't suppose I could just hoot and holler then a boat from the measuring guys comes and picks it up? Or they measure and release right on the boat..

I dunno.. am I worrying to much? Should I just focus on trying to catch a fish?

I'm also interested. It sounds fun with a chance at a great prize to pay for the addiction and to pay off the warden. Can anyone else weigh-in with info or past experience?

What I do is use a construction garbage bag..add some water to it when i have one to be checked in and head to the scale house ..
The scale house is by the brige. So fish around there or keep it in mind ... and it's biggest fish so only need to check in if it's a good one (not every Pike) 2 years ago the winner was 40 inch ..
They sell bags at bass pro weigh in bags they work good allso..

I am right near Belwood Lake and was thinking about going into this one.
My only concern is getting the fish over to the measuring station alive - I have heard that they will not take any fish if they are on a live line.

Are you thinking about entering this one??

you will need to make a live well out of a plastic cooler
