Any chance I could try one of these out sometime?

Either Fogh, or if I could take someone’s for a quick spin?

Rich, is it to early to tell which kayaks will be the prizes for the BCC?

I haven't secured the prize yet, but will be trying for a Compass.

That is a pretty good deal for the Compass.  Considering the retail for the Outback is $2,549.00 and the Compass is $1,949.00 in US dollars.  At $2,400.00 Canadian, you getting a bit of a break on the exchange.  I just paid 30 cents on the dollar yesterday.

As far as the comparison to the Outback.  You have 68lbs to 81lbs (hull weight) with many design improvements. It is a cross between the Outback and Pro Angler.  Faster than the Outback, about the same stability, and much less hull slap.  There are a lot of modifications that you can do to the Compass that makes it a great fishing kayak.

I will post video and pictures of my modifications in next couple weeks.

Compass looks like is pretty much a budget outback which is neat.  You lose a few things including:

  • mirage 180 drive...instead it gets the older drive with what looks to be turbo fins
  • no front hatch
  • streamlined mould with the elimination of many of the storage areas, nooks and crannies and footrests
  • added front rails

It's $1000 less than an outback from the looks of it ($2400 CDN at fogh website) compared to 2017 outback that is.

Outback size with PA style Hill. Bare bones fishing kayak at a more affordable price

What's the Compass, Tim. Looks a bit like an Outback without the front hatch.

What are the big differences other than the mirage drive udpate?  Annoyingly everyone who tries the Mirage 180 says they'd never go back.   Was hoping to hear that it's not really worth it :)

They changed the drive a little. The arms oval shaped now as opposed to square. They now have a button at the top to adjust the setting and they went back to a similar attachment setup of years past for the fins...to make it easier to remove them should you bend the mast post.

They added an extra seal to the hatch lid to help keep water out and they changed the mounting boards...they have track mount built in and holes cut out to mount pliers etc.

13% HST only I assume since it's made in the USA (and free trade hasn't been torn up yet!)

Funny how for years Hobie owners said reverse wasn't important  ;D .
I still say it (owner of a 2015 PA12)

Plus 6% Michigan tax and exchange rate on the dollar...I would also assume
don't think you'd pay michigan tax (or you'd get it refunded)

exchange rate goes without saying lol
