I think it may have to do with the technology that is in the cheaper units vs. the more expensive ones.

It certainly is a nice software update. I would love to be able to download that. Its just to bad Lowrance only seems to cater to their high end market.  Even though my unit is only 2 years old I guess they consider it obsolete and don't offer the upgrade for the Elite/Hook series. I guess a $700 unit is not high end enough for them to worry about.

pretty cool. I've often wondered why thet don't overlay both downscan and regular sonar as they both have their benefits.   Guess they can but you need a new unit.   I usually run a split screen with both on there and just dart back and forth but this would allow me to have the dual view on one half of the screen say and gps / contour lines on the other half

With the new software update set to release around March 10, Lowrance has added some nice features to the HDS Carbon, HDS Gen3 and Elite Ti lines.
