I haven't noticed the drag from my ram mount although there has to be at least some, but it does pick up weeds. Of course you can't escape collecting weeds with an external arm mount.

I have used the Scotty one for a season with the big Lowrance total scan transducer.  It seems to work fine and I can flip it up out of the water.  It catches weeds and causes some extra drag.  Probably a few guys hear that have one kicking around or you might be able to build one that is sturdier and has less drag.

I have one of these for my deeper sonar.

The flexible arm is pretty slick, might need some creativity to get it to work with other transducers. Attachment to kayak is for a quick rail.

I have the Ram transducer arm for my Humminbird and it works just fine but I suspect, without knowing, that the Scotty arm would be better .... and cheaper. Like I say, the Ram works well enough that I won't scrap it but if I were doing it again I'd have a long hard look at the Scotty unit.
