Dec 29-2014 - Muskoka Area - Ice Report

So I decided to put this in this section as it is not a Kayak Fishing Report.

Decided to head up to the Muskoka's and try a lake that buddy knows well. With some good intel on the lake that it was frozen and the ice was safe with some caution taken around the shores (spring fed) we headed out.

Only one other group we saw out there and had spent the night on the ice... (RED HUT)

We found some sketchy shorelines with 2.5 / 3" of ice but once we were out about 15 / 20 ft there was a good solid 5 to 6 inches of black ice.

Fishing was slow. Usually it is really hot this early season but the cold I am sure shut them down. Going from +10*C to -17 is pretty extreme.

Got some smaller fish than usual (Walleye's and Whities).

Not really any other lakes were safe for fishing as of yesterday (Dec 29). This cold will for sure help the bigger lakes.
